The Venetian

The Venetian is the largest AAA Five-Diamond hotel and casino resort in the Americas, boasting 4 049 suites and 11 148 m squared of casino gaming space.

It is located in Las Vegas, Nevada, on the site of the demolished Sands Hotel. This is on the east side of the Las Vegas Strip between Harrah’s and The Palazzo.

Combined with the Sands Expo Convention Centre and The Palazzo, The Venetian is part of the largest hotel and resort complex in the world, with a staggering 7 128 hotel suites.

Themed after the Italian city of Venice, The Venetian features a huge indoor mall, The Grand Canal Shoppes, where guests can take gondola rides along canals on the second floor of the building.

The Casino at The Venetian offers over 120 casino games as well as a state-of-the-art sports lounge.

In 2006 the opening of The Venetian Poker Room created a stir, offering almost 11 000 square feet of high-roller poker space.

The Venetian History

The Venetian, which is is owned and operated by the Las Vegas Sands Corporation, opened on May 3, 1999 as Sophia Loren joined The Venetian Chairman and Owner, Sheldon Adelson, in christening the resort’s first motorised gondola.

The Venetian cost $1.5 billion to build, making it one of the more expensive resorts built in the 20th Century.

In 2003, another tower was opened at the Venetian: The Venezia at The Venecian added 1 013 suites and a new wedding chapel to the resort complex.

The Venetian Attractions

  • The Venetian hosts the Las Vegas Madame Tussauds wax museum.
  • Bouchon, Grand Chef Thomas Keller’s restaurant, is one of the finest among some fantastic eateries on the Strip.
  • Since 2001, The Gugenheim Hermitage Museum has hosted several collections and exhibitions of famous painters, including A Century of Painting: From Renoir to Rothko in 2003, featuring work by Gauguin, Matisse, Picasso, van Gogh and others.
  • Since 2005, Blue Man Group has been a permanent show at the Blue Man Theatre.
  • Phantom – The Las Vegas Spectacular opened at The Venetian’s new theatre in June 2006 and is sill a permanent show at the resort.
