Genting Highlands
Genting Highlands Resort recently held off stiff competition to win an acclaimed International Travel Award at the 14th Annual World Travel Awards Gala ceremony, seen by many as the Oscars of the tourism and travel industry.
Genting Highlands scooped the 2007 World Travel Award for the World’s Leading Casino Resort at the ceremony, following an industry poll of 167 000 companies in over 160 countries.
This follows a number of other awards won by the resort, including the Hospitality Asia Platinum Awards 2007/2008, TTG Travel Awards 2007 and Brand Laureate Award 2007.
History
Casino de Genting was first opened in 1971 and has undergone several renovations and extensions to enable it to keep up with the times.
Casino de Genting’s reputation grew rapidly over the following years and by the 1980s the number of staff members, tables and slot machines in the casino had more than doubled.
This massive increase in demand led to Casino de Genting’s transfer to the Highlands Hotel in the late 1980s, and the casino is now spread over three hotels throughout the Genting Highlands Resort!
Casino de Genting
Genting Highlands Resort is home to Malaysia’s only gaming venue, Casino de Genting, which is also one of the largest casinos in Far East Asia.
Casino de Genting, which is 6 000 feet above sea level, offers 426 game tables and 3 140 slot machines and video terminal gaming machines in over 200 000 square feet of gaming space.
Casino de Genting is split into a number of themed sections, offering a range of settings from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood to the opulence of luxury gaming at the Casino de Monte Carlo.
The exclusive International and VIP Room provides a platform for high stakes gambling and is available solely to selected Genting WorldCard members and invited guests.
In 2004, Casino de Genting launched Starworld, a modern gaming venue in the First World Hotel that offers cutting edge technology including electronic table games and cashless gaming systems for its slot machines.
The casino launched its latest theme, the trendy @Latté lounges, in 2005. These combine state-of-the-art gaming with gourmet coffee offerings for the seasoned coffee enthusiast.
