SkyCity can be found in the base building of Auckland’s Sky Tower and was only the second casino to open in New Zealand. It is still the only casino in the country’s capital.

SkyCity Casino History

Fletcher Construction built the entire complex, including the Sky Tower, convention centre and hotel, which opened in 1997.

According to New Zealand law, 1.5% of operating profit must be paid to charity. This has resulted in NZ$18.6 million being paid to community organisations and trusts since the hotel and casino opened. SkyCity also provides over 2 000 jobs and has welcomed more than eight million visitors in just over a decade, returning NZ$670 million in dividends in this time.

SkyCity Facilities

The SkyCity complex includes the impressive Sky Tower and hotel, a large theatre, a convention centre for up to 700 people and numerous restaurants (seven) and bars (six).

The hotel has 305 standard deluxe rooms, 32 executive suites, 4 luxury suites and 2 premier suites, while there are an impressive 1 950 parking spaces.

The main attraction at SkyCity, however, has got to be the casino.

SkyCity Casino Features

SkyCity Casino was refurbished as recently as 2006, and continues to attract a lot of foreign tourists to New Zealand’s capital city.

The casino accommodates over 1 600 electronic gaming machines and over 100 game tables, with the action being split between three gaming zones: the Main Gaming Floor, Play Casino and VIP Gaming.

SkyCity Casino’s VIP Gaming offering consists of two rooms – The Pacific Room for table games and The Platinum Room for game machines – where high rollers can enjoy extra-special treatment.

SkyCity has a large percentage of Asian customers. For this reason, the casino regularly undertakes specific initiatives to cater for this clientele.
