Casino de Charlevoix

Casino de Charlevoix was established on the cliffs of Pointe-au-Pic, about 150 km east of Quebec City in Canada.

The region is a popular tourist destination, set against the stunning backdrop of the nearby St. Lawrence River and Laurentian mountains

The casino is based in the former summer playhouse of the historic Manoir Richelieu, which can still be found right next to Casino de Charlevoix in its new manifestation as the world-class hotel Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu.

The 405-room Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu hotel features a conference centre for an audience of over 1 000, a spa, a health club, two all-season outdoor pools and a picturesque 18-hole championship golf course.

In 2000, Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu was named “Canada’s Golf Resort of the Year” by Canada's Golf Ranking Magazine, and the course’s proud history dates way back to its 1925 opening.

The hotel has won over a dozen tourism awards and 5 in 2007 alone, including being named in the Condé Nast Traveler 2007: Top 10 Resorts in Canada and the Travel & Leisure Magazine: Top 500 Hotels in the World (2007).

History

The original Manoir Richelieu was built in 1899, boasting 250 luxury rooms, to cater for tourism in the region (this dates back to 1761, when sportsmen would visit the region to fish for salmon or relax in the beauty of nature).

In 1928 a fire destroyed the property. The hotel was rebuilt in the style of a French castle and reopened in 1929

Loto-Québec, Canadian Pacific Hotels and the Solidarity Fund acquired the Manoir Richelieu in 1998.

More than $140 million was invested to rennovate and expand the resort to form the Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu and Casino de Charlevoix, and this world-class hotel and casino resort complex reopened to much acclaim in June 1999.

Casino de Charlevoix

Casino de Charlevoix offers over 20 gaming tables and more than 800 slot machines. It was also the first casino in Québec to be linked to a hotel resort.

Since its opening, Casino de Charlevoix has quickly risen up the ranks of popular casinos in North America and is certainly one of the top hotel and casino resorts in Canada.

This is borne out by the figures: over the course of the 2005-06 fiscal year, Casino de Charlevoix welcomed one million visitors and generated annual sales of $47.6 million.
